The univeristy targets specific information to you as PAWS announcements, based on your role(s)—whether you are a
student, faculty, staff or alumni, in a specific program, taking a
specific course, part of a committee or group, having special status (as
an International or Aboriginal student, for example), or others.
Colleges and divisions have designated individuals who are authorized to approve and/or post information using PAWS targeted announcements. (Professors and members of your PAWS groups are also able to send their students or fellow group members announcements via the Annuoncements channel in PAWS and by email, but not by text message.)
Announcements may be sent to you in three ways:
- via your Announcements channel in PAWS (default top left on your Home tab)
- via email
- via text message to your cell phone or other mobile device
Text Messages
The University of Saskatchewan sends three types of text messages:
- Emergency text messages
- Time-sensitive, high priority PAWS announcements (class cancellations, road closures, etc.)
- PAWS password self-recovery text messages
Text messages are opt in; only those who sign up to receive
Announcements by text message will get U of S Announcement texts sent to
their mobile devices. Please note that the University of Saskatchewan provides this
optional text messaging service as one of several means of communicating
electronically with the campus community. As well:
- The PAWS text messaging service may be unavailable from time to time for maintenance or other reasons. (Note: Emergency texts are sent via a separate system and are thus not affected.)
- Replies to text messages are not actively monitored.
- The university does not guarantee to post all requested messages via text messaging.
If you elect to receive text messages from the university, you
may also opt to recover your forgotten PAWS password via text message with a reset code.
For further information, please see our text-message-specific FAQs.
PAWS Bulletin Board
Although posting targeted announcements is restricted to authorized individuals, posting information on the PAWS Bulletin Board channel is open to the campus community.
The Bulletin Board channel, on everyone's Home tab, brings the campus community "nice to know" information about University-related events, opportunities and more. You can see up to eight bulletins at a time in the Bulletin Board channel in PAWS; clicking "All Bulletins" opens a separate browser window where you can see a complete list of bulletins. You can even search for and display bulletins by category. Log in to PAWS and click the "Post a bulletin" link at the bottom of the Bulletin Board channel to request permission to post bulletins.
