Network Printing provides departments and organizations on campus with the ability to easily share network printers. ICT provides a secure reliable well-maintained print server for the University community. By using Network Printing, campus departments will have access to a print service that is fast and reliable.
Network Printing provides reliable and evenly managed spooling of print jobs from Macintosh, Linux, Microsoft Windows and other computer platforms. Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP users will find that the Network Printing service also provides these additional benefits:
ICT staff will configure and test a print queue to ensure that it is secure and only available to the appropriate campus users.
The network printing service is easy to set up and use. It provides equal access to network printers from PCs, Macs and other computers. For Windows desktops, the print server Green provides fast printing and painless installation and upgrading of printer drivers.
The network printing service provides the capability to restrict who can print to your network printer and also provides the capability to delegate printer management to your departmental IT support staff.
ICT supports network scanning to Xerox multifunction devices. The Xerox multifunction devices are capable of scanning documents and uploading the scan results to an FTP server. ICT can provide space and ftp access to departmental file storage on Jade for this purpose. The Xerox devices can be configured with scanning profiles for each individual in the department that uses network scanning. Each profile corresponds to a folder on Jade where the scan results are uploaded.
Network printing is offered to University departments at no additional cost once they have invested in a network connected printer. Ongoing costs for maintenance and consumables for the printer such as ink and paper, are the responsibility of the department.
Green, the print server, is configured with redundant hardware, emergency power, and high speed Gigabit network connectivity. The print server is maintained, backed up, and kept up to date by ICT's professional support staff.
