In order to get a network capable printer set up with ITS Network Printing service, you will need to do the following:
Provide a physical location for your printer where it can be set up and connected to the university network.
Choose a name for your printer and register your network printer to get a TCPip name (this may take one to two business days). In choosing a good printer name, consider including your department and location to make it easier to recognize your printer. An example of a name for a Xerox colour printer that belongs to ITS and is located in the Physics building could be ITSPhysicsColourXerox.
Submit a network print queue request to the ITS Help Desk at
with the following information:
Department or Organization name
Contact Name and Phone Number
Building and Room location of the printer
Registered IP Name for the printer
Brand and Model of the printer
List of any optional components that are installed in your printer
Any special security or configuration requirements such as setting up limited access, using multiple printer trays or using the duplex (i.e. double sided) feature. These may vary according to the printer.
