Qualitative analysis provides insight into the behaviour of people. The data analysed include various formats such as interviews (stored in audio, video, or written records) or questionnaires. The desired information is extracted from the data with various techniques and analysed for trends and other features. This may lead to quantitative analyses of the data, such as statistical analysis.
This approach is used in several fields of study including nursing, medicine, education, business, and the social sciences and humanities. This list is not exhaustive, as qualitative research is used in many disciplines.
The University of Saskatchewan has several copies of NVivo, a Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS) package. This is available through the Campus Computer Store as one year licenses, for a reasonable fee.
