In order to map your drive, your computer must be on the usask.ca domain (i.e. on campus). If your computer is not on the domain you can access your directory on www with a Secure FTP program such as FileZilla.
XP
- Click "Start."
- Select "My Computer."
- Click "Tools."
- Select "Map Network Drive."
- In the "Drive" pull-down menu select a letter (in this case the letter "I" is selected). You may select any letter that is not currently being used.
- In the "Folder" field, type
\\www\www\directoryname
(e.g. \\www\www\its is used to map a drive for www.usask.ca\its).
- If you want the drive to be mapped every time you use your computer, then select "Reconnect at login."
- Click "Finish."
To access/view your new drive:
- Click "Start."
- Select "My Computer."
- Your newly mapped drive should now be listed as a drive.
Vista
- Click "Start."
- Select "Computer."
- Click "Map network drive."
- In the "Drive" pull-down menu select a letter (in this case the letter "I" is selected). You may select any letter that is not currently being used.
- In the "Folder" field, type
\\www\www\directoryname
(e.g. \\www\www\its is used to map a drive for www.usask.ca\its).
- If you want the drive to be mapped every time you use your computer, then select "Reconnect at login."
- Click "Finish."
To access/view your new drive:
- Click "Start."
- Select "Computer."
- Your newly mapped drive should now be displayed as a drive under "Network Location."
If it does not appear, you may need to adjust the authentication
level required for mapping to Unix servers.
By default Windows 7 and Vista set the policy for LAN Manager authentication to "NTVLM2 responses only" which causes the inability to map to our WWW server.
In order to connect you will need to modify these settings.
Automatic
In order to complete the automatic installation, you must be logged in
as an "Administrator." To modify the authentications settings
automatically, download and install the file.
Manual
- Open the Run command and type "secpol.msc."
- Press "continue" when prompted by Vista.
- Click on "Local Policies" --> "Security Options"
- Navigate to the policy "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" and open it.
- Change this to "LM and NTLM - use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated."
- Press OK.
