All official U of S colleges, departments or other organizations qualify for accounts on www.usask.ca for the purpose of building a website. The department or organization head is ultimately responsible for all content in the organization's website. Anyone requesting access to the department webpages must do so with the department head's approval.
Before applying for an account:
- Check to see if your college or department maintains a separate web server for you to use. Some colleges which do this are Arts & Science, Edwards School of Business, Agriculture & Bioresources, and Engineering. Procedures for accessing and maintaining information on these systems are different from procedures for www.usask.ca, so you will have to contact the administrators of those servers for more details.
- Obtain a memo from your department head verifying that you are to be given access to the department's website for maintenance purposes.
- If there is already a main "webmaster" for your department, coordinate your web development efforts with that webmaster.
- Apply for the account using the WWW Account Request Form (47 KB PDF). Send the form and the memo from your department to the ICT Help Desk.
Preparing Your Account
Each campus department is entitled to disk space on the www.usask.ca server for distributing their information. To do this:
- Obtain an account on www.usask.ca for each person who will be maintaining information in the departmental web areas (the webmasters for the department).
- Send an e-mail to the central webmasters. Indicate the department you represent, and the NSIDs of the webmasters for your department.
- The central webmasters will create a directory for your department.
- Create a file called "index.php" in that directory. This file is your department's starting webpage. The central webmasters have created template files you can use for your website.
- Enhance your starting page. Training is available to help with webpage development.
- Publish your website once it is completed. You may e-mail the central webmasters to let them know about your new site.
- Continue to maintain and update information on your page as needed so the page does not become obsolete.
