Here are some content guidelines for
academic and
administrative units' webpages. There are also some general guidelines and individual page guidelines available. Also refer to the Computer Use Policy.
If using the institutional Web Content Management System (WCMS), you can use an out-of-the-box site to build your department's page. See this for suggestions of topics you may want to include in your department page.
Some things to keep in mind are:
- Have a link back to the main University of Saskatchewan page at http://www.usask.ca. Visitors may get to your webpages through an indirect route, such as using a search engine. Once they see your page, they may want more information about the University of Saskatchewan, so a link to the U of S home page is quite helpful.
- Have a link back to your unit's home page, for the same reasons as given for the link to the U of S home page above.
- Your pages should focus on information about your department, not information elsewhere on the Internet. You may want a section called "Other Resources," but do not make that the focus of your page.
- Follow the U of S visual identity guidelines.
- There are departmental tools, general tools and apache server tools to help you create and maintain your website.
- Here are some quick tips for promoting your URL:
- Include your web address in related print pieces, including but not limited to business cards, letterhead, publications, etc.
- Include your web address in other communication vehicles, such as presentations, videos, and promotional items.
- Add the URL to your e-mail signature.
