About the U of S Learning Commons

The University of Saskatchewan Learning Commons is a joint service of the University of Saskatchewan Information Technology Services Division and the University of Saskatchewan Library.

Phase 1

Phase 1 was introduced on October 9, 2001 with the installation of 20 general purpose workstations in the serials reading area, on the first floor of the Main Library. These machines feature a full set of office productivity applications, web based e-mail, network file storage, color laser printing and scanning, as well as library applications. These workstations are available to all students in all colleges, as well as to unclassified students.

Phase 2

The initial stages of Phase 2 were completed September 3, 2002, adding an additional 20 Learning Commons workstations to the Main Library, bringing the total up to 40, as well as the installation of 17 new workstations in the various branch libraries accross campus. When the Phase 2 implementation is completed in mid-October, 2002 there will be a total of 81 stations distributed as follows:

The software suite available on all the Learning Commons workstations has been updated as part of Phase 2 as well. Check the software page for a complete list of all the applications and utilities available.

Phase 2 also introduces 4 docking stations in the Main Library for use by persons who wish to use their own laptop computers to access the Internet and the campus network.


Use of the Learning Commons workstations is governed by the
Library's Computer and Internet Acceptable Use Regulations.
