The Leung Laboratory


Our goal is to elucidate the functions of proteins important in the development of neural circuits that control behaviours.  We utilize the fruit fly as an in vivo model to study how these proteins function in an intact nervous system.  Many of these proteins are engaged in intricate and dynamic protein-protein interaction networks to exert their cellular functions important for neural development.  A key question is how the three-dimensional architecture of the protein-protein interface facilitates their functions in a manner that is responsive to the cellular physiology.  Therefore, our lab also utilizes structural approaches to visualize these protein complexes in three-dimension trapped in different physiological states.  With these integrative experimental approaches, we aim to provide a novel perspective in our understanding of neural development that gives rise to animal behaviours.
