New mexico has a fascinating array of small towns and most are enclaves,
quite isolated. That's all we've got is small towns, really. I grew up in
the San Fernando Valley which is a suburb of LA and is twice the size of
our biggest city, Albuquerque. And besides, any normal person can spell it
too. Try spelling Abiquiu after two Buds, better yet try saying it. Hey we
got Tusuque and Pojoaque to tangle up the unsuspecting as well. Go south
and you get such mundane names as Grant and Lincoln. Give me a break!
We've got Fort Sumner where the Wild West's favorite son William Bonney
lies buried under a ton of concrete. Seems that his body is periodically
stolen. His tombstone is anchored down by welded steel rods to keep that
from going off to someones collection too. Can't keep old Billy locked up
for long they say. No pictures of Billy's grave yet. Someday maybe.
