What kind of gelatin did you use? It is best to use demineralized,
inert photographic gelatin. Active (non-inert) gelatins contain
sensitizers and/or desensitisers that make the result unpredictable
and you may sacrifice speed and contrast.
What's your recipe like? Without knowing details of what you do, it's
hard to suggest anything for you to try.
I personally make 75% chloride 25% bromide emulsion (both mole per
cent) for enlargement and get results comparable to Fortezo grade 3. I
use a bit of sulfur sensitization to boost the speed and reduce
contrast to get this result.
