a.
Focus on Stroke 9
The Focus on Stroke
initiative aims to build stroke research capacity in Canada. The emphasis of
the ninth round is to encourage research in the later themes (i.e., clinical,
health services/policy, and/or population health) and support research
training of heath professionals (e.g., nurses, occupational therapists,
pharmacists, physiotherapists, speech therapists ect.).
Funding priority will be
given to highly rated applicants whose research is 60% or more in the later
themes: clinical, health services/policy, or population health. A limited
amount of funds is available to support proposals with a basic biomedical
focus.
The Heart and Stroke
Foundation of Canada, the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory
Health, and the Canadian Stroke Network are proud to support this training
initiative.
Application deadline:
October 30, 2009.

Health System Improvement (PHSI) initiative is a premier funding opportunity
for health services and policy research. The goal of the program is to
support collaborative, policy-relevant research to strengthen Canada's health
care system.
As a competition partner
in the PHSI program, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada is
specifically interested in supporting research in obesity, stroke, or
resuscitation.

the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada is offering Master’s
Studentships, Doctoral Research Awards, and Research Fellowships through the
Jump Start Resuscitation initiative.
This new personnel award
program aims to build capacity for resuscitation research in Canada and to
support the next generation of researchers who will contribute to advancing

this strategic initiative, the funding partners support collaborative
research that explores novel, non-invasive imaging technologies with an
emphasis on translation of research findings into improvements in the health
of the populations. HSFC is co-funding two of the four team grants:
- CIHR team in synchrotron medical
imaging, led by Drs. Helen Nichol and Graham George at the
University of Saskatchewan
- A portable wireless near infrared
spectroscopy system combined with electroencephalography for bedside
monitoring of stroke and cardiac patients, led by
