Sustainable Forest Management
Network - Call for Proposals
PROGRAM SCOPE FOR 2004/2005 Approximately $1.4 million in funding will be targeted to a limited number of integrated team projects that: - propose innovative approaches to addressing the core research issues; - examine complex questions that cannot be assessed by individual research projects of the SSHRC or NSERC nature; - exhibit integration, synergy, economies of scale, and interdisciplinarity; and - address issues across multiple research areas. There will be an increased emphasis on research integration. The Network is increasingly directing funding toward innovative proposals involving interdisciplinary research teams assessing various forest management strategies and alternatives using science-based criteria and indicators systems. Applicants must consult with Research Area Leaders regarding the scope of proposed research prior to submitting a Letter of Intent (LOI). Research Area Leaders will provide advice on integrating research with current and proposed Network research. Letters of Intent are due October 17, 2004. The role of SFM Network Partners in conceiving, designing, and implementing the projects is crucial: they must take a strong role, and that role must be evident in proposals. Program scope for 2004/2005 new applications in the Natural Disturbance Management (NDM), Innovative Zoning (formerly TRIAD/Intensive Forest Management (IFM)), and Integrated Resource Management (IRM) Research Areas Please visit the web for more information: http://sfm-1.biology.ualberta.ca/english/research/en_cfp.htm |
