Full details and application forms available at www.biocap.ca

The BIOCAP Canada Foundation is offering financial and networking support for proposals that researchers plan to submit to the 2006 NSERC Strategic Grants Competition (see www.nserc.ca).

Research must address one or more of the following goals of the BIOCAP Canada Foundation:

Text Box: A Special Note about Targeted CFPs:
While proposals that fit any of the BIOCAP goals are being solicited at this time, we have strategic partnership opportunities within some areas. Please see the BIOCAP website for additional information about these opportunities (www.biocap.ca).

Goal 1. Biomass Conversion and Use. To develop the tools, technologies, and implementation strategies for accessing and processing biomass into a sustainable supply of the energy, chemicals and materials that will complement and extend fossil carbon resources.

Goal 2. Understand to Manage.  To quantify, understand and model how current management and use of forests, farmlands and aquatic systems in Canada impact the environment (especially the sources and sinks of greenhouse gases) under current and future atmosphere and climate. . The insights gained will be used to identify strategies for reducing the human footprint associated with the management and use of these ecosystems, and to support sustainability in the emerging bioeconomy.

Goal 3. Innovations in Biomass Production. To develop new technologies and management strategies that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with human management and use of the biosphere, and increase the sequestration of atmospheric CO2 into biological stores that can be used as offsets for other emissions or as feedstocks for a sustainable bioeconomy.

Goal 4. Integrate and Synthesize. To identify bioeconomy solutions that can yield economic and environmental benefits by integrating, synthesizing and communicating insights and technologies to inform policy and investment decisions in government and industry.

Text Box: Deadline Dates
