The official preferred logo is the primary symbol of the University of Saskatchewan visual identity system. Introduced in 2005, the logo, as defined in this document, represents every unit of the University, and is sanctioned by the University of Saskatchewan Board of Governors as being the preferred visual identity.

The logo must be properly integrated into all University communication. This includes any use required in the conduct of the business of the University, and must be applied using the standards presented in the University’s visual identity guidelines.
The official preferred logo of the University of Saskatchewan embodies the University’s heraldic shield adorned with the word mark ‘University of Saskatchewan’.
The main graphic in the logo is the University of Saskatchewan’s heraldic shield. The heraldic shield consists of a green illustration of a shield containing a book of knowledge surrounded by three stylized wheat sheaves. The shape of the shield, sheaves and book were redesigned in the early 1990s for consistency of use by the campus community and updated with the Canadian Heraldic Authority in 2001.
The word mark is a unique typographic element displaying the full name of the University of Saskatchewan in a customized typeface based on the font Georgia split across two lines of type. Georgia cannot be substituted for any other font and may not be altered or embellished in any way. The word mark may only be used in conjunction with the heraldic shield and not as part of any other larger mark, title or graphic.
Maintaining the integrity of the official preferred University of Saskatchewan logo is crucial to the success of the University’s visual identity. To maintain consistent presentation, the official preferred University of Saskatchewan logo must contain both the heraldic crest and the words University of Saskatchewan. Use of the heraldic crest without the words University of Saskatchewan is prohibited.
To ensure that the official preferred University of Saskatchewan logo is not confused with other logos or identifiers, the preferred logo must be surrounded by a buffer zone of clear space. This space should be equal to or greater than the height of one wheat sheaf used within the heraldic shield (refer to figure 1.6).
To maintain clarity and legibility two versions of the heraldic shield within the logo are provided. When the logo is used at a size where the height is greater than or equal to .75” (1.91cm) the book of knowledge is etched with the Latin phrase Deo et Patrie (For God and Country). Alternatively, when the logo appears at a size where the height is less than .75’” (1.91cm) the book of knowledge is provided without Latin and with simplified wheat sheaves.

The University of Saskatchewan logo and its symbols should not be altered in any way. Stretching and rotating are strictly prohibited. Additions, such as adding drop shadows, tracing, outlining or any other modifications to the word mark or heraldic shield are not allowed. Logos should not be combined with other text.
