Established in 1907, the University of Saskatchewan has evolved from a prairie college into a major player in advanced education and research in Canada. More than 19,000 students attend classes in subjects ranging from drama and political studies to quantum physics and biotechnology. With more than 7,000 people on staff the university is one of the city's largest employers. The university provides both students and staff with a range of services including housing, counseling, health, financial, career advising, food and daycare.
The campus has exceptional examples of Collegiate Gothic architecture and is considered one of the most picturesque universities in North America. Residents and visitors alike enjoy its architecture and the natural beauty on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River.
For the last century, the university's researchers have been redefining the way people think about health, society and the world around us. The university is home to one of the most comprehensive health sciences programs in Canada and includes the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Medicine and Physical Therapy, Nursing, and Pharmacy and Nutrition.
The University Library boasts over 1.87 million printed volumes, adding another 20,000 annually. The University Bookstore provides students with class essentials, as well as the famous Huskie clothing with the distinctive "paw print" design. Students, staff and the community enjoy a number of entertainment, dining and recreational opportunities, including the popular Louis' Pub. Campus Recreation operates out of the new Physical Activity Complex, which features as its centerpiece a 42-foot rock climbing wall.
