Science Educators From Across Canada Gather For Science on Stage at the CLS and U OF S: Twenty science educators from across Canada are at the Canadian Light Source and University of Saskatchewan for the second annual Science on Stage Canada. Essentially a science fair for those who teach science in schools and science centres, the purpose of Science on Stage Canada is to invigorate science teaching in schools across the country, with educators demonstrating the lessons and techniques they use to engage students.
Members of the media are invited to attend Science on Stage Canada and talk to participants from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories during the following events:
Wednesday, August 11, 10 am to 12 noon: "Teachers on the Beamlines" - Participants will be participating in research using the BioMedical Imaging and Therapy and Soft X-ray Microanalysis beamlines at the CLS. The experience is a prerequisite for these teachers to bring in their students as part of the CLS Students on the Beamlines programme.
Thursday, August 12, 4:30 to 6:30 pm: "Science on Stage Fair" - Participants will be showing off their innovative science teaching ideas to each other and the public during the festival's science fair.
Both events take place at the Canadian Light Source, 101 Perimeter Road on the University of Saskatchewan campus.
Science on Stage Canada is presented by the Canadian Light Source, University of Saskatchewan colleges of Engineering, Agriculture and Bioresources, and Medicine, the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council's PromoScience programme, Enterprise Saskatchewan, Cameco Access Program for Engineering and Science, Merck Canada, PASCO Canada, Research in Motion and the Saskatchewan Science Teachers Association. The educational objectives of Science on Stage Canada are supported by the Council of Science Educators of Canada. For more information: www.scienceonstage.ca.
