    The CRFRU consists of of clinicians, basic scientists, nurse specialists, a dietician, as well as excercise therapists.  The creation of this Unit allows the clinical arm and the research arm to collaborate in promoting their common goals- to research and reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease.

Members of CRFRU:

Clinical Arm

    The clinical arm provides a multi-disciplinary consultation approach to help reduce cardiovascular disease in individuals at risk.   The patients seen at this clinic have at least one (but generally more than one) risk factor. 

    The clinical arm focuses on clinical trials of Phase II and Phase III antihypertensives, Lipid Lowering Agents, Oral Hypoglycemic Agents, and Anorexiants.

Research Arm

    The research arm consists of four seperate laboratories.  There is a wide range of research interests, all geared towards the prevention of cardiovascular disease.  The basic causes of vascular disease at the cellular level, new drugs for cardiovascular disease in isolated tissues and in man, and methods by which advances in the laboratory can be applied to man.
