CAR Guidelines Symposium

The Symposium will be held on Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 at the Montréal Marriott Château Champlain.

Objectives:
♦ To provide a forum for interchange among the three Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Guidelines projects currently underway in Canada and others who are interested in or planning similar endeavours. Currently there are active projects in Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan.
♦ To inform healthcare administrators, health policy makers and clinicians about the concepts and delivery of clinical appropriateness guidelines functioning as part of an electronic order entry system.
♦ To emphasize the necessity of medical leadership in setting clinical appropriateness guidelines and in the change management required to implement guidelines in medical practices.

Dr. D. McIntosh resigned as Joint Head - Clinical. The position is vacant and is available for any interested party to apply for. Thank you Dr. McIntosh for your contribution to the administrative responsibilities of the department.

Research Day 2007

Research Day was held on June 15th, 2007

We'd like to thank Ian Suchet for joining us as our distinguished guest. His attendance, and participation, was greatly appreciated.

Dr. Greg Kraushaar was awarded the second annual University of Saskatchewan Medical Imaging and GE Healthcare Resident Research Award ($1,000). He was selected for this prize for project Back to the Future: Shortening the Z Axis on Helical CT PE Studies without Compromising Diagnostic Power.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day a success!

Joan Matlock Retires

After 37 years of dedicated service to the Department of Medical Imaging as our beloved Academic Secretary, Joan Matlock gracefully embraced retirement.

A wonderful celebration of this momentous occasion was attended by many former Department Heads, Residents, and friends. We had a wonderful evening at John's Prime Rib.

Joan will be greatly missed. Have a wonderful retirement adventure.

New Joint Head of Medical Imaging Appointed

July 1, 2006

The University of Saskatchewan and the Saskatoon Health Region are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sheldon Wiebe as the Joint Head of Medical Imaging.

The administrative structure of the department has also been established in a joint meeting of the department faculty. The Associate Head Academic will be Dr. Grant Stoneham and the Associate Head, Clinical will be Dr. Don McIntosh. These three individuals will form the basis of the new department Executive Committee.

Further developments are sure to follow as the department will soon be establishing subcommittees targeted at Research, Quality Assurance, and Morbidity and Mortality.

This is an exciting time for the department and we wish the new appointees success in their new roles.

GE Sponsors Medical Imaging Resident Research Day

June 24, 2006

Dr. Robert Wilson was awarded the first annual University of Saskatchewan Medical Imaging and GE Healthcare Resident Research Award.  His project Multi-modality Imaging of Traumatic Growth Plate Injury in Rats was selected for this award at the University of Saskatchewan Department of Medical Imaging Resident Research Day on June 23rd, 2006.

Other winners were Dr. Greg Kraushaar (Ultrasound in Pauciarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis:  Do Imaging Parameters Correlate with Clinical Care? selected for second prize), Dr. Neety Panu (Sternoclavicular Joint Pneumatosis:  A Possible Procedural Artifact selected for third prize) and Nida Syed (Radiation Dose from Diagnostic Computed Tomography (CT) in Saskatchewan selected for best medical student project).

The University of Saskatchewan also thanks Dr. Eric Stern, Professor of Thoracic Radiology at the University of Washington and Deputy Editor of the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR), for his attendance and participation at Research Day.

We also wish to gratefully acknowledge the financial support of GE Medical Canada, who by generously contributing insured that this day would be a success.
