" Never retract, never explain, never apologize –just get the job done and let them howl.” Nellie McClung

Nellie McClung: A One “Person”Play, was written by Kathleen Morrell, an alumna of the University of Saskatchewan (1967, History), who wants Canadians to have a richer appreciation for Nellie McClung as both a radical reformer and a wife and mother in the first half of the 20th century. Like many of her colleagues who sought to improve the social, political and economic status of women, McClung was also a woman of deep faith.
The play is performed by the actor Wendy Jeanne Smith and produced by Robert Loucks.

Presented by the Ecumenical Chaplaincy, this event is co-sponsored by Friends of Sophia, STM, various U of S departments/offices, and Information Services Corporation

The Spirituality of Jane Austen
Dr. Kathleen James-Cavan, Associate Professor, Department of English
Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 7:30 pm.
St. Andrew's College Lounge

In this illustrated talk, Dr. James-Cavan shows how Jane Austen uses her insider's position as the daughter and sister of Church of England clergy to comment on the secularization of the church in the novel Mansfield Park .  Neither pious nor prescriptive, the spirituality of Austen's novel derives its force from a debate about conduct, traditionally the province of the clergy.
