B.A. (Hons.), B.Ed. (Saskatchewan), M.M. (West Texas A&M), D.M.A. (Michigan State) Gerald Langner is Department Head and Professor of Music at the University of Saskatchewan, where he teaches classes in choral pedagogy and secondary methods, choral literature, music education, and conducts the University of Saskatchewan Greystone Singers.

A native of Jansen, Saskatchewan, he received Bachelor of Arts (with high honors in music) and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Saskatchewan. Winner of a number of scholarships and awards, he earned his Master of Music from West Texas A&M University and Doctor of Musical Arts from Michigan State University where he held a graduate assistantship and studied with Dr. Charles K. Smith. A recipient of the Dwaine Nelson Master Teacher Award in 2004, a past president of the Saskatchewan Choral Federation and a recipient of its Pro Musica award in 2010, Dr. Langner has taught in public schools and universities in Saskatchewan, Alberta, Michigan, and Mississippi and remains active as a clinician and adjudicator for workshops and festivals throughout Western Canada. As conductor of the University of Saskatchewan Greystone Singers, he has performed with the choir nationally and internationally, and has released three CDs: In the Greystone Tradition, The University of Saskatchewan Greystone Singers, 1999-2003; Vol 2: 2004-2007; and Vol 3: 2007-2011. Dr. Langner has published articles in journals such as the Canadian Music Educator and Anacrusis, a periodical of the Association of Canadian Choral Communities. The Greystone Singers have been consistent national semifinalists in the biennial CBC National Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs, and in May 2010 won second prize in the Canadian National Competition for Amateur Choirs, “University Choirs” category. Besides performing at many local events, festivals, and with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, the Greystone Singers annually tour throughout Saskatchewan. They make frequent appearances elsewhere in Canada and occasionally visit the United States, Europe, and other countries, including Cuba. In 2007 the choir performed in Vienna, Salzburg, Prague, and at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. The choir toured China in May 2010 with concerts in Shanghai, Xi'an, and Beijing, followed by a performance in Saskatoon at Podium—the national biennial convention of the Association of Canadian Choral Communities.
