Student Handbook

The Department of Music Welcomes you.

Welcome to the Department of Music, one of the oldest in Western Canada and in one of the most beautiful campuses across Canada; as well as a special greeting to our new students this year.

We again have many projects and events hosted by our Department this year and I encourage you to participate in these activities which will contribute to your education. Some of these include our Fine Arts Research Lecture Series (FARLS), In Performance Convo Series (IPCS), UNIFEST (University of Saskatchewan Music Festival), ensemble concerts, and special guest artists master classes. It is important to also become active in our USMES (University of Saskatchewan Music Education Students) and ASM (Association of Student Musicians) organizations. Our faculty and staff are also committed to making your time here as rewarding and informative as possible.

This handbook provides valuable information and I encourage you to familiarize yourself with our policies and procedures therein. The regulations concerning attendance at recitals are particularly important. Please note that it is the students' responsibility to be aware of all such policies.

On behalf of the entire Department, I wish to extend my very best wishes for a creative, musically productive, and rewarding year.

Gerald Langner
Head, Department of Music
