UNIFEST

May 2012

Dear Friends of UNIFEST:

Much has changed within our world of Music Education—particularly with respect to the concept of the “Music Festival.”  This has evolved from a “one-size-fits-all” competition to a much more inclusionary and user-friendly model.  Over the past thirty-five years we have enjoyed developing the format of UNIFEST to accommodate our participants’ musical and pedagogical needs and we have appreciated the support of all of our educational and corporate partners during that time.

As we continue to evolve as a Department and in listening to the comments of directors and their students, we hope to continue to deliver consistently high musical and pedagogical experiences for band, choral, and jazz groups—both locally and beyond.

Thus, the Department of Music has decided to suspend UNIFEST in its current format and to provide this experience at a more personal level.  We will offer clinics and workshops to any group that wishes the “festival experience” at times of the year that may be more beneficial to the group themselves.  We are proud of the wonderful talent in faculty resources that we have on campus to provide meaningful workshops to your students and will also continue to bring in the most highly qualified artists and educators to work with your students.  These artist-residencies will include opportunities to travel to your school to work with your students or for your groups to travel to our campus.  In this way more opportunities are available for adjudication/workshops throughout the year.  Nonetheless, you are welcome to visit our campus at any time to work with our great roster of clinicians.

We are constantly developing and adding to our outreach projects and activities which include: the Fine Art Research Lecture Series in Music, High School Select Wind Orchestra, Band, Choir, and Jazz weekends, Brass and Woodwind Days, ensemble concerts and recordings, music educator professional development projects, Departmental Open Houses, Saskatchewan Music Festival, Jazz Festival, and summer band camps on our campus.

If you have any questions please contact one of our UNIFEST Committee: Glen Gillis, Darrin Oehlerking, Dean McNeill, Troy Linsley (Departmental Administrator), or Gerald Langner (Department Head); or check our website for the latest workshop information.

Thank you for your continued support of our Department.  We look forward to working with you and your students.

If you would like to book a workshop please email us.
