Cultural Competence in the workplace can be described as a congruent set of workforce behaviors, management practices and institutional policies within a practice setting resulting in an organizational environment that is respectful and inclusive of cultural and other forms of diversity.

Objectives:

  • Reflect on personal and professional values related to cultural diversity
  • Describe key values, concepts, and approaches for cultural competence in health care
  • Discuss principles for embracing diversity and addressing discrimination
  • Examine strategies for bridging cultural differences
  • Identify issues and topics for further exploration

Application will be enhanced through the use of stories focused through the use of stories focused on illustrating issues in diversity. Participants will be encouraged to share their own stories and experiences to enhance relevance to practice. Several exercises are planed.
