Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Admission Information

Admission to the College of Nursing four year BSN undergraduate program is non-direct entry. Students must complete the first year pre-professional course requirements before being accepted into the second year of the Nursing program.

The pre-professional first year courses can be obtained through a variety of sources and locations in the province. See additional details on Pre-professional options.

While completing the pre-professional requirements, students who are interested in pursuing UofS Nursing at our sites in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, and in the North must apply to the College of Nursing for admission to second year for the four year BSN program.  Applications for second year will be available starting in September.

In addition to the pre-professional first year courses, the following are also requirements for admission to the second year of the BSN program:

• Heart Saver CPR Level C with AED.  Must be submitted by October 15 following admission into the second year of the nursing program.
  
• A Standard First Aid Certificate.  May be done in advance but must be obtained no later than October 15 following admission into the second year of the nursing program.
  
• Criminal Record Check.  Results of a criminal record check must be submitted after being accepted for admission to the second year of the nursing program.  Updated criminal record checks may be required later in the program based on clinical agency requirements.
  
• English Language Proficiency.  All students whose first language is not English must present evidence of English proficiency. Details on acceptable examinations and minimum requirements that must be attained are available under Information for Students.  Go to English Language Requirements.

Enrolment in the program is limited to the number that can be accommodated in class and clinical practice. Although the minimum required average in first year is 60%, the actual admission average for second year may be higher depending on the number of competitive applicants who apply each year.  Every effort will be made to accommodate qualified applicants.

Northlands College

Students wanting to apply to the Northlands College site must be Northerners. The definition of a Northerner is someone who has spent 10 years or ½ their lifetime residing in the Northlands College area (Click to view Map).

Aboriginal Ancestry

A number of seats in the program are reserved for persons of Aboriginal ancestry. Applicants of Aboriginal descent may compete within this category, rather than within the entire applicant pool. Applicants should identify themselves as Aboriginal on the application for admission.

Persons with Disabilities

Applicants with disabilities must consult with the program prior to application. To qualify applicants must self identify on the application for admission and provide documentation to verify their status. The essential skills necessary to pursue nursing are outlined in a document available through the College of Nursing.

International students

International students are welcomed. Applicants who self-identify on the application form as being ESL or EAL applicants are required to undergo English language testing to determine admission to the program. Information about the language proficiency tests and required scores are available here. Applicants may be required to access additional education in academic English in order to be successful in the program.
