* UofS courses that exceed the number of required subject credits can be used to fill social science or open elective credit units.
** Pre existing Nutrition credits must have been obtained within the past 10 years.
Open electives include all university level courses that are for credit (see below for some exceptions). Students may select from a wide variety of subject areas and are encouraged to take classes that are of personal interest to them. Evidence shows that students do well in subject areas that interest them.
Students may consider subjects from all disciplines (some examples include Computer Science, Northern Studies, Geology, History, Philosophy, Art, language studies, etc.) Social science electives can be used to fill open elective requirements as well.Although they are not pre-requisites, some students have indicated that courses in the following subject areas have been beneficial in preparation for courses in later years:
- Introduction to Women and Gender Studies - WGST,
- Medical Terminology – CLAS
- Kinesiology - KIN (note: KINAC activity courses are NOT acceptable)
Credit Exceptions: Credit cannot be given for HSC 120.3 or HLTH 100.3, KIN 223.3, EXT 305, and EXT 405. UofS Kinesiology Activity Courses (KINAC) are not acceptable for credit.
Students taking electives from the University of Regina should note that most courses offered through the Schools of Human Justice and Social Work at the University of Regina are NOT granted credit by the University of Saskatchewan and therefore are NOT acceptable as open electives.
Please contact an academic advisor if you have questions about subject and elective requirements not listed here.
