Clinical Placements

NEPS Year 3 Clinical Courses

NEPS 301.3 Health Challenges III (156 hrs):
The focus of this clinical experience is on the care of adults and their families with complex/rapidly-changing health challenges.
A variety of acute care settings are utilized, such as surgery, cardiosciences, neurosciences, and other medical units. 

Term 1 or Term 2

  • Students in Saskatoon and Regina who are assigned to NEPS 301in Term 1 will then be assigned to NEPS 303 in Term 2, and vice versa.
  • In Prince Albert, NEPS 301 is scheduled in Term 1 and NEPS 303 in Term 2.

NEPS 303.3 Health Challenges IV: The focus of this clinical experience is on the care of childbearing families (72 hrs) and individuals from infancy to adolescence (72 hrs).
Placements may occur in inpatient pediatric and obstetric units, and various school and other community settings.

NEPS Year 4 Clinical Courses

All clinical placements are arranged by the College of Nursing Clinical Coordinators. For Year 4 clinical courses, students are able to provide placement preferences to the clinical coordinators using the placement system HSPnet.   Students are given a specific time frame to select and rank placement preferences in HSPnet.

NEPS 428.3 Partnerships with Community (117 hours):
The focus of this clinical experience is on community health practice in a variety of settings including public health, home care, mental health, seniors? wellness, and school, rural and aboriginal health.

Year 3 - Term 3

  • for September & December Program Completion students (Saskatoon & Regina students only)
  • three week block mid-May to early June, placements are located throughout the province

 
Year 4 - Term 1

  • for April Completion, Prince Albert & SDEO students
  • clinical schedules vary over the term

NEPS 421.6 Primary Health Care in the Community (240 hours):
Placement settings in this practicum provide the opportunity for students to focus on issues related to the broad determinants of health. 

Placements are 6 weeks full time preceptored, with the order of the practica dependent on placement availability.

Saskatoon & Regina students only:
July - September: September Completion

September - December: December Completion

Saskatoon, Regina & Prince Albert students:
January - April: April Completion and SDEO

NEPS 425.6 Clinical Integration (240 hours):

Placement settings in this practicum provide the opportunity for further development of clinical skills and direct care of clients.
