Biphasix™ Dermal and Transdermal Delivery System

The Biphasix™ is a needle-free, noninvasive, particulate drug delivery system suitable for the intra- and transdermal delivery of drugs. It can be considered the next generation of liposomal delivery systems where a number of the features of liposomes are greatly improved. The biphasic delivery systems or Biphasix™ combine the advantages of liposomes and submicron emulsions. Biphasic vesicles are a complex, multicompartmental system where lipid bilayers entrap both aqueous and oil phases in the form of a stabilized emulsion.

The two important aspects of the delivery system are
i) improved encapsulation, and
ii) drug permeation enhancement through the skin.

Drugs with poor solubilities may be encapsulated into the multicompartments of the Biphasix™. Furthermore, Biphasix™ can encapsulate compounds of high molecular weight. Results to date demonstrate successful encapsulation of proteins up to 100 kDa.
The Biphasix™ delivery system forms the basis of several topical and transdermal product applications, such as small molecules, protein drugs and vaccine antigens.
