
Adrienne is a Master’s Candidate in Nutrition, studying under the supervision of Dr. Susan Whiting and Dr. Hassan Vatanparast. Adrienne was presented with three awards at the Canadian Nutrition Society/Société canadienne de nutrition (CNS/SCN) Annual Meeting in Edmonton held June 3-5, 2010. Adrienne was one of eight finalists presenting in the Nestle Nutrition Graduate Student Competition and as such was awarded the Christine Gagnong Memorial Travel Award. The Nestle Graduate Student Award is given in recognition of excellence in the quality of graduate student research conducted in the field of Nutritional Sciences. Adrienne received 3rd Place for her research on Beverage Intake by Canadian Children and its Relationship to Body Mass Index. The College applauds you Adrienne - You are an exemplary student!
The Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) has named Derek Jorgenson, assistant professor with the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, as the 2010 Canadian Pharmacist of the Year.
Dr. Anas El-Aneed and Dr. Ildiko Badea were successful recipients of NSERC Discovery Grants for 2010.
Congratulations to ALL of our graduate students who submitted posters for this event!. Your initiative and participation enabled the Graduate Research in our College to notably stand out amongst the rest, and to successfully capture numerous awards at this year’s Annual Life & Health Sciences Research Day!
A great big “Thanks!” also goes out to Lindsay Tumback (Nutrition PhD Candidate) & crew for helping to plan & facilitate the Research Day activities. Help from our grad students is integral to the success of any of the graduate activities on campus.

Dr. Susan Whiting, the recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Graduate Supervisor Award, has been a staple in the development of the graduate program in the Division of Nutrition and Dietetics, College of Pharmacy & Nutrition. In her 22 years with the University, she has supervised over 20 graduate students and continues to help students make a unique contribution to the nutrition field.
