How To Apply
There are no specific application forms for Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs), teaching assistantships, or bursaries; the Department of Philosophy will automatically consider suitably qualified candidates for those awards. The Department will also nominate students who are eligible (i.e., who have an average of approximately 85%) for the University Graduate Scholarship (UGS) competition held in late February; however, in addition to the Department’s nomination, this competition requires an application form [pdf, 253 kb.] that should be sent to the Graduate Chair no later than the first week in February.
Please note that an application for admission to the MA program cannot be processed until all of the following items have been received:
(i) A completed online application for admission to the graduate program.
(ii) Three letters of reference (the referees whose email addresses you provide in your online application will automatically be directed to an online form for this).
(iii) Official transcripts (U of S students may simply ask the Department to print out their online transcript).
(iv) A sample of your written work on some topic in philosophy (an essay or term paper for a philosophy course would be appropriate).
(v) A letter or statement of intent briefly outlining your area(s) of interest and indicating which area or topic you hope to pursue for your thesis research.
(vi) A processing fee of $90 as instructed in the online application.
Those seeking admission to the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program should visit the College of Graduate Studies and Research’s Interdisciplinary Studies website for further information.
