B. (Brian) TowrissFootball Coach Brian Towriss the head coach of the Saskatchewan Huskies was born in Moose Jaw, SK. A graduate of AE Peacock Collegiate in Moose Jaw Towriss joined the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in the fall of 1974. Brian enjoyed instant success as a Huskie as he was named a Western All-Star in his rookie season. Upon completion of his degree, a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, he was hired by Football Saskatchewan as the provincial coach. Brian rejoined his alma-mater in 1981 as an administrative assistant for Huskie Athletics. This year would also mark Brian's return to the Huskie football team. Towriss was named head coach of the Dogs in 1984 at the age of 27. During his 13 years as head coach of the Huskies Towriss has been named Canada West Coach of the Year 5 times (1988-90, 1994, 1996), won the Frank Tindall Trophy as the CIAU Coach of The Year in 1994, coached his team to 5 Hardy Cup championships, 3 previous Vanier Cup appearances (1989, 1990, 1994, 1996) and a Vanier Cup Championship (1990). Under his guidance the Huskies have also won the Central Bowl (1989), Churchill Bowl (1990) and Atlantic Bowl (1994). During the 1996 season Towriss led the Dog Pack to a 7-1 record, the best record ever by a Huskie football team. The team then won the Hardy Cup with a 37-16 victory over the UBC Thunderbirds.. Since becoming the youngest coach in the country Towriss has strived to improve his football team. In doing so he has become a Level IV NCCP certified coach. He presently sits on the Football Canada Coaches Working Committee.
