D. (Dave) Adolph
Men's Hockey Coach

The Saskatoon born coach of the Huskie hockey program played his junior hockey in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). After his junior eligibility, he played for the Saskatoon O's and the Swift Current Broncos, he enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan where he played in 1978, and from 1980-83.

During his time as a player with the Huskies the team won three consecutive conference championships, from 1981-83. The team also played in three consecutive CIAU championship finals. The Huskies lost its first two bids at becoming national champions before winning the crown jewel in 1983.

Adolph, an assistant captain with the Huskies during his playing days, was named a Canada West second team all-star in 1983. Upon completion of his playing days he became an assistant coach with the team. Adolph spent from 1984 through 1990 as an assistant to Brent McEwen.

In the fall of 1990 Dave was named head coach of the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. During his four years with the southern Alberta university he committed himself to building a strong hockey program. The majority of his time in Lethbridge was spent on recruiting. The tireless work of Adolph paid off in 1994 as the Pronghorns won the University Cup emblematic of hockey supremacy in the CIAU.

Lethbridge's win was bitter-sweet for Adolph as he left the program in September of 1993 to become the head coach at the University of Saskatchewan. Adolph, who received a B.A. and B.Ed. from Saskatchewan, has continued to show his ability as a strong recruiter at Saskatchewan.

The 1999-2000 Season

For the second time in the last three season Coach Dave Adolph has been named the 1999-2000 Canada West Hockey Coach of the year. The award is selected by a vote of the eight Canada West Hockey coaches. In 1997-98 Adolph earned his first Coach of the Year as Head Coach of the Huskies.

In his 11th season as a head coach in Canada West Hockey, the former Saskatchewan defenceman, enjoyed his finest season behind the bench as he guided the Huskies to a 22-3-3 record and first place Canada West Finish. Ranked in the CIAU Top Ten all season, including five weeks at number one, Adolph's Huskies led the nation with 22 victories in 1999-2000 conference play. The 22 wins equals the Saskatchewan record for most wins in a season ( 22 in 1987-88) and three losses sets a new Huskies record for the fewest loses.

Since becoming Saskatchewan 20th head coach in 1993-94, Adolph has compiled a career record of 100-78-18 in 196 games with the Huskies for a .556 winning percentage. He became the second Saskatchewan coach to record 100 victories in Canada West Hockey on February 19th as he defeated the Manitoba Bison's at Rutherford Arena in the final regular season game.

Adolph has guided the Huskies to post-season play for five consecutive season from 1995-96 to 1999-2000 and has won three Canada West Hockey conference championships, defeating the Alberta Golden Bears in both 1997-98, 1998-99, and 1999-2000.

He is the second Saskatchewan coach to earn Coach of the Year honors as Dave King became the first Huskie Hockey Coach to earn the conference honor in 1979-80.

Adolph has compiled a career record of 132-150-26(471) in 308 Canada West regular season games with Lethbridge and Saskatchewan in 11 seasons from 1989-90 to 1999-2000. His 132 victories rank him fourth on the conference's all time list behind Clare Drake, Alberta (377), George Kingston, Calgary (245) and Brent McEwen, Saskatchewan (142).

ASSISTANT COACHES

Marc Chartier- Marc is in this seventh year as an assistant with the Huskies. Marc spent his junior hockey days playing with the Saskatoon O's of the SJHL and then spent time with the Billings Bighorns and New Westminister Bruins of the WHL.

Upon completion of his junior playing days Marc joined the Huskies where he played five years. During the first two years with the team the Huskies played in the national championships twice. In his second year with the team the Huskies won the University Cup.

Chartier, a Huskies team captain during his laying days, is a graduate of the College of Physical Education and Education. After completing his university playing career Marc had tryouts with the Canadian Olympic team and the AHL. His last two years of playing competitive hockey were playing pro hockey in England.

Marc, married with three children, is a elementary school teacher in Saskatoon.

Dan Leier- Dan, now in his sixth year as an assistnat with the Huskies, is employed by the Saskatoon Catholic School Board as an elementary school teacher. Dan is also a graduate of both the colleges of Physical Education and Education.

Dan brings many leadership qualities to his position with the team. He was a team captain of both the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL and the Saskatchewan Huskies during his playing days. With the Huskies Dan was instrumental in leading the Dogs to a second place finish at the 1986-87 CIAU Finals. Dan is currently fifth on the school's all time scoring list. In his 117 games Dan tallied 154 points, 65 goal and 89 assists.

Dan is married and has two daughters.

Support Staff

Peter Herd- Peter, a native of Mildon, SK joined the huskies as the equipment manager in 1990. He has received both a diploma from the School of Agriculture and a degree from the College of Agriculture.

Peter has also worked with the national program. He has traveled with team Canada to the 1992 Spengler Cup. the tournament which was held in Davos, Switzerland, was Peter's first exposure to international hockey and to gold. The nationals won the Spengler in 1992. Peter was named as the equipment manager for both the 1994 and 1995 national junior Team.

Peter's record is perfect in international competition as both junior teams won god medals. the 1994 championship was captured in the Czech Republic while 1995's was played in Red Deer , Alberta.

Peter has also spent time helping out with the Prince Albert Raiders and the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL.

Peter is married to his best friend Theresa and they have one child, Tyler.
