English

Students beginning an English program in September 2009 and later will follow the new requirements.  Continuing students are encouraged to follow the new requirements, where possible, and to consult an academic advisor.  Appointments may be arranged through the English general office, Room 320 Arts.

Foundation Courses

The following four courses can be used to satisfy the Foundation requirement in the B.A. Honours, B.A. Four-year, and B.A. Double Honours programs.

  • ENG 202.6
  • ENG 203.6
  • ENG 204.6
  • ENG 290.6

General Notes

1.  All students are strongly encouraged to seek academic counselling each year. Honours students in particular should see the Department's Administrative Assistant to ensure entry into permission only 400-level Honours seminars.

2. Only 6 credit units of introductory 100-level English may be taken for credit. 

3. ENG  110.6 equivalency is 6 credit units junior English, e.g. two of ENG  111.3, 112.3, 113.3, 114.3 or 3 credit units transfer credit with one of 111.3, 112.3, 113.3, 114.3.
Note: ENG  115.3 and/or 116.3, if previously taken, may be used with or in place of the 3 credit unit classes.

4. Students are encouraged to take 200-level courses early in their programs, and should note that of these 200-level classes, only 202.6, 203.6, 204.6, and 290.6 may be used to help satisfy a Foundation requirement.

5. 400-level seminars are open to students who have been admitted to a single or double Honours program of studies. Other students may be admitted as space permits after consultation with the Department's Administrative Assistant and the instructor of the class.
