The B.Sc. Physiology & Pharmacology program replaces the previous undergraduate program in Physiology. All students who started year one in the 2008/09 academic year will be expected to follow the B.Sc. in Physiology & Pharmacology. Students who started their programs (Year One) prior to September 2008 will be expected to follow the Physiology program. The Department of Physiology will review any students who started Year One prior to September 2008 who have not yet completed a B.Sc. in Physiology and determine on a case by case basis the courses to be included within individual programs.
The Physiology & Pharmacology program combines two key life science disciplines to provide a comprehensive understanding of the functions and mechanisms of actions of the major systems of the human body, and of the effects and mode of action of chemicals which modify the major systems of the body. This new degree program leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Physiology & Pharmacology provides the strongest foundation for those considering application to Medicine, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy and Nutrition, Nursing, Chiropractic, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Speech Language Pathology and other health care related professional programs. Following a 4-year of Honours B.Sc. degree, students may also choose to continue on to graduate work leading to a Masters' or Ph.D. in Physiology or Pharmacology and a career as a research scientist.
Programs Offered
The Physiology & Pharmacology undergraduate B.Sc. program is jointly administered by the Departments of Physiology & Pharmacology. Students majoring in Physiology & Pharmacology can choose from a 3-year, 4-year or Honours B.Sc. degree.
