The University is committed to providing opportunities for people to study at a distance from the main campus in Saskatoon. Classes and programs are offered by distance learning and through classes taught face-to-face or by streamed video at sites around Saskatchewan.
The Distance Learning, Off-Campus & Certificate Programs (DOC) Unit, located in the Centre for Continuing and Distance Education, administers much of the off-campus and distance learning for the University, including classes from the Colleges of Arts & Science, Agriculture and Bioresources, Education and Kinesiology. Information on admission and registration for degree credit classes and programs is available through Student and Enrolment Services.
Students can start degree programs in Arts & Science, Agriculture & Bioresources and many pre-health science programs, including Pre-Nursing at larger sites in the province. Working in collaboration with regional colleges, students can be admitted to the above colleges and take U of S classes at:
• Cumberland College: Melfort
• Great Plains College: Kindersley, Swift Current
• North West Regional College: North Battleford
• Northlands College: Buffalo Narrows, Creighton, Ile a la Crosse, La Ronge
• Parkland College: Yorkton
• Southeast Regional College: Estevan, Weyburn
• St. Peter’s College: Muenster
We also run the largest off-campus site in the province in Prince Albert. Housed at SIAST Woodland Campus, students can start all the degree programs noted above, and more.
Education degree programs are offered at select First Nations sites, in collaboration with the ITEP program through the College of Education.
Students, both on- and off-campus, can also take classes by a variety of distance learning modes. Classes are offered online, by independent studies, through streamed video & videoconferencing, or by a mixture of delivery modes.
We also offer several certificates in cooperation with colleges of the University. Certificate Programs allow students to focus on a specific area of study.
Certificates in Agriculture (CAP)
This program is currently under review. At present, no new applications will be accepted for the Crop Production Certificate or the Farm Busniess Management Certificate. Students currently enrolled in the Certificate prior to May 2010 will be able to complete their programs. Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education (CACE)
Designed for people who instruct,
administer, and support educational programs for adults, CACE provides a comprehensive and practical foundation in adult
education and training. This program is offered through independent study with
supplementary face-to-face workshops that can be taken for elective CACE
credit. A consortium involving the Universities of Alberta, Manitoba,
Saskatchewan, and Victoria collaboratively offer this program. Visit

Certificate in Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language (CERTESL)
This six-course (250-hour), distance-delivered program trains and
qualifies you to teach English as a Second or Foreign Language. Typically, the
program takes one to two years of part-time study although it can be completed
in as little as eight months or as much as five years. This award-winning
program is accredited by TESL Canada and TESL Ontario, and accepted by TESL

Certificate in English for Academic Purposes
Offered by the University of Saskatchewan Language Centre, Centre for Continuing and Distance Education, the English for Academic Purposes program prepares international students for admission to most University programs at the University as well as improving their facility in the English language. There are six levels with the upper two levels (University Preparation 1 and 2)focusing intensely on aspects of academic English such as note taking, essay writing, research, citation and other associated skills. Upon completion of the final level (University Preparation 2), students may commence study in most U of S programs without taking a standardized English proficiency test such as TOEFL or IELTS. Prairie Horticulture Certificate (PHC)
Offered by distance education as a collaborative effort among the University of Saskatchewan, University of Manitoba, Assiniboine Community College, and Olds College, this program has four streams: Landscaping and Arboriculture, Nursery Crop Production, Greenhouse Crop Production, and Fruit and Vegetable Production. Students are required to complete eight courses which can be taken on a part-time basis by home study in two to four years. Individual classes can also be taken for general interest. Visit

Special Education Certificate (SPEC): Offered in collaboration with the College of Education, Department of Educational Psychology and Special Education, this Post Degree Certificate is delivered online for K-12 teachers who hold a Bachelor of Education Degree and a valid Professional A Teaching Certificate. SPEC is recognized by Saskatchewan Education as meeting Special Education teacher qualification requirements and has been approved as an Additional Qualification Certificate that enables K-12 teachers to upgrade their classification.
