Archaeology
Archaeology is the study of the artifacts and other material remains of past human societies. Through this study the characteristics of past human technologies are revealed, as well as the time periods at which they existed. The archaeology program will focus on past cultures in two parts of the world: (1) the North American Plains, and (2) the Near East and adjacent Mediterranean regions. The application of science methodologies in the analysis of archaeological materials is an important part of archaeological research. For this reason, the Department offers both B.A. and B.Sc. programs. Students who plan to major in archaeology should consult the Head of the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology or the Undergraduate Advisor concerning their choice of courses.
Students who prefer a social science orientation should take one of the B.A. degree programs.
Students who prefer a science orientation should take one of the B.Sc. degree programs.
Students will not be permitted to complete both a B.A. and a B.Sc. in Archaeology.
Major Average
The major average in the B.A. or B.Sc. in Archaeology programs includes the grades earned in:
- ANTH 111.3, ARCH 112.3 and ARCH 116.3 (If all 3 are taken, the third course will be listed in Requirement 7, but will still be included in the major average.)
- All ARCH and all courses listed in the Major Requirement B6 or C6.
Residency Requirements in the Major
To receive a B.A. or B.Sc. degree in Archaeology, students must complete at least two-thirds of the following coursework (to the nearest highest multiple of 3 credit units) from the University of Saskatchewan.
- 6 credit units from ANTH 111.3, ARCH 112.3 and ARCH 116.3
- Minimum requirements in Major Requirement B6 or C6.
