Health Sciences

The M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in Health Sciences are thesis-based graduate programs for students performing research within any of the clinical departments in the College of Medicine or the School of Physical Therapy. Research projects will primarily investigate translational and/or clinical aspects of human disease, health, and healthy living and may also include biomedical research projects projects with clinical translation. Areas of research are open and dependent on the research interests and expertise of the student and their research supervisor.
Master of Science (M.Sc.)
Admission Requirements
- undergraduate four-year bachelor's or professional degree
- minimum scholastic standing of 70% over the previous 60 credit units
- evidence of proficiency in English
Degree Requirements
Students must maintain continuous registration in the 994 course.
- GSR 960.0
- GSR 961.0 if research involves human subjects
- GSR 962.0 if research involves animal subjects
- a minimum of 9 credit units, including either HSC 801.3 or CLR 800.3
- HSC 990.0 seminar
- HSC 994.0
- CHEP 805.3 statistics (if the student does not have previous biostatistics training)
- M.Sc. thesis defense
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
Admission Requirements
- M.Sc.
- minimum scholastic standing of 70% over the previous 60 credit units
- evidence of proficiency in English
Degree Requirements

Transfer from Master's degree to Ph.D.
Admission Requirements
- students in the M.Sc. program may apply to transfer to the Ph.D. program after the first year and no later than the second year
- minimum average of 70% in Master's courses will be required for students to transfer from a Master's to Ph.D. program
