The Department of Music offers graduate programs in composition, music theory, and performance leading to the Master of Music (M.Mus.) and in musicology leading to the Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees. Special case programs are available in the Master of Music in conducting (choral or instrumental), or Master of Music in Music Education (M.Mus.[Mus.Ed.]) programs. The M.Mus and M.A. programs in composition, music theory, and musicology require 21 credit units plus a thesis. The M.Mus. program in
performance requires 30 credit units, and is project-based. Certain areas of concentration also include the successful completion of a comprehensive examination and a foreign language(s). The normal time for
completion is two years, including a one-year residency. For further information, please contact the Department of Music.
Master of Music (M.Mus.) (Composition or Music Theory)
This is a thesis-based program.

Master of Music (M.Mus.) (Performance)
The Master of Music in performance degree (project-based) requires a minimum of 30 post-baccalaureate credit units. The degree is offered in the following areas: Piano, Collaborative Piano, Voice, Trumpet, Saxophone and Conducting/Music Education. Within Conducting/Music Education, there are two areas of emphasis: choral or wind.
Admission Requirements
- Bachelor of Music (Honours) or equivalent
- cumulative average of 80% in the final 60 credit units of the Bachelor's degree (official transcript required)
- three letters of recommendation
- a current resume
- statement
of intent in which the candidate describes his/her prior academic
background, readiness to undertake the Master of Music Degree in
performance, and purpose for wanting to enroll in the program
- TOEFL Examination results for applicants from non English-speaking countries
- assessment examinations in Musicology and Music Theory
