The Department of Music offers graduate programs in composition, music theory, and performance leading to the Master of Music (M.Mus.) and in musicology leading to the Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees. Special case programs are available in the Master of Music in conducting (choral or instrumental), or Master of Music in Music Education (M.Mus.[Mus.Ed.]) programs. The M.Mus and M.A. programs in composition, music theory, and musicology require 21 credit units plus a thesis. The M.Mus. program in performance requires 30 credit units, and is project-based. Certain areas of concentration also include the successful completion of a comprehensive examination and a foreign language(s). The normal time for completion is two years, including a one-year residency. For further information, please contact the Department of Music.
