Students' programs in Educational Foundations and Continuing Education can be arranged to permit access to the courses and faculty in both areas of study. Such programs may be designed to meet the requirements for the following:

Master of Education
Postgraduate Diploma

The department focuses on the study and promotion of social and ecological justice education. Special interests areas include Indigenous and anti-racist education, environmental and ecological education, comparative and international education, gender and sexual orientation issues, as well as critical and creative approaches to various educational practices including process philosophy, critical pedagogies, place-based learning, land-based learning, learning through life history, anti-oppressive education and global education.

Master of Education (M.Ed.)

The purpose of this program is to provide opportunity for students to undertake graduate study in the area of social and ecological justice education. Through its course offerings, the program provides for the interdisciplinary and international study of Indigenous education, adult and lifelong learning, anti-racist and anti-oppressive education, ecological and environmental education, process teaching and learning, sexual orientation and gender study, and other related thematic areas including through the study of philosophy, anthropology, Indigenous studies, lifelong and adult education, women's studies, history and sociology of education.

Admission Requirements

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from a recognized college or university or documented and approved equivalency
a Cumulative Weighted Average of at least 70% (University of Saskatchewan grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study (i.e., 60 credit units)
demonstrated ability for independent thought, advanced study, and research

Degree Requirements

Students must maintain continuous registration in the 992 or 994 course.

GSR 960.0
GSR 961.0 if research involves human subjects
GSR 962.0 if research involves animals subjects
thesis: 18 credit units, plus EFDT 994.0 thesis and EFDT 990.0
project (non-thesis option): 24 credit units including EFDT 992.0 and EFDT 990.0
course (non-thesis option): 30 credit units and EFDT 990.0
core courses include:
EFDT 870.3
one research course (EIND 855.3, ERES 800.3 ERES 810.3, or another research course approved by the supervisor)
In consultation with their supervisor, students select other courses to complete their programs of study. Electives are chosen to strengthen the background needed to undertake the thesis or project. For thesis, project, and course-based students, at least two courses (6 c.u.) must be taken in the department.
There is a residency requirement of two terms. EFDT 990.0 is taken during this time.
