Philosophy

The University has designated Indigenous Studies (especially Aboriginal justice and Indigenous knowledge) as areas for promotion. The Department of Philosophy supports these initiatives and welcomes applicants wishing to pursue thesis research that applies the conceptual frameworks and methods of various areas of philosophy to the study of issues pertaining to Indigenous Studies.
Master of Arts Thesis (M.A.)
Admission Requirements- Bachelor of Arts Honours (B.A. Honours) in Philosophy (120 credit units) or equivalent
Degree RequirementsStudents must maintain continuous registration in the 994 course.
- GSR 960.0
- GSR 961.0 if research involves human subjects
- GSR 962.0 if research involves animal subjects
- a minimum of 15 credit units plus PHIL 990.0 and 994
- a residency requirement of a one year minimum, though it is typical for students to take 1 1/2 or 2 years to complete the degree
Master of Arts Course-Based (M.A.)
Admission Requirements- Bachelor of Arts Honours (B.A. Honours) in Philosophy (120 credit units) or equivalent
Degree Requirements- GSR 960.0
- GSR 961.0 if research involves human subjects
- GSR 962.0 if research involves animal subjects
- a minimum of 30 credit units plus PHIL 990.0
- minimum of one year (Note: the standard completion time is 2 academic years)
