Soil Science

The Department of Soil Science and the Saskatchewan Centre for Soil
Research provide research opportunities in the following fields: soil
mineralogy, genesis and micro-pedology, landscape-scale soil processes,
soil microbiology, dynamics of soil organic constituents, soil
fertility-plant nutrition, soil-plant-water relationships, soil
structure, physical chemistry of soil solutions and inorganic soil
constituents, soil biochemistry, interrelationships of soil and the
environment. Research is conducted on agricultural, forested, disturbed,
and undisturbed soils.
Postgraduate Diploma (P.G.D.)
Admission Requirements- undergraduate degree in Soil Science or close applied discipline
Degree Requirements- GSR 960.0
- GSR 961.0 if research involves human subjects
- GSR 962.0 if research involves animal subjects
- a minimum of 30 credit units, including SLSC 990.0
- a residency requirememt of 12 months
Master of Agriculture (M.Agr.)
Admission Requirements- an undergraduate degree in Soil Science or close applied discipline
Degree RequirementsStudents must maintain continuous registration in the 992 course.
- GSR 960.0
- GSR 961.0 if research involves human subjects
- GSR 962.0 if research involves animal subjects
- a minimum of 24 credit units plus the 992 course, including SLSC 990.0
- a residency requirement of 24 months
Master of Science (M.Sc.)
Admission Requirements- an undergraduate degree in Soil Science or close applied discipline
Degree RequirementsStudents must maintain continuous registration in the 994 course.
- GSR 960.0
- GSR 961.0 if research involves human subjects
- GSR 962.0 if research involves animal subjects
- 15 credit units, including SLSC 990.0, 994
- a residency requirement of 24 months
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
Admission Requirements- M.Sc. in Soil Science or close allied discipline
Degree RequirementsStudents must maintain continuous registration in the 996 course.

- GSR 961.0 if research involves human subjects
- GSR 962.0 if research involves animal subjects
- 6 credit units, including SLSC 990.0, 996
- comprehensive examination
- qualifying examination (is at the discretion of the graduate committee)
- a residency requirement of 36 months
Transfer from Master's to Ph.D.
Degree Requirements- GSR 960.0
- GSR 961.0 if research involves human subjects
- GSR 962.0 if research involves human subjects
- 21 credit units, including SLSC 990.0, 996; 15 credit units from M.Sc. and 6 credit units from Ph.D
- a residency requirement of 36 months
