Attendance
Students in the College of Medicine
are expected to attend all lectures, laboratory periods, seminars and
patient contacts. Interactive seminars and patient contact is a unique
educational experience, irreplaceable from alternative sources.
Students who are persistently tardy or absent from lectures or who
neglect academic work, will be subject to disciplinary action and may
be excluded from final examinations.
Students must have approval
to undertake extramural clerkships and only academically competent
students should engage in this work.
Promotion & Graduation
Promotion is dependent on the student's achieving a grade of at least 50% in
every course of that phase and obtaining a weighted average of at least 60% for
the phase. The student must also achieve a "pass" mark in the elective.
A
student who fails to achieve promotion will be required to:
- Pass a supplemental examination(s) or do the remedial work and pass a
supplemental examination(s) if he/she is unsatisfactory in any course(s)
equivalent to 6 credit units or less;
- Repeat the phase or to discontinue if he/she is unsatisfactory in more than
6 credit units.

A student may be Required
to Discontinue the study of Medicine for non-academic reasons such as health
or unprofessional behaviour/conduct.
Requirements for License to Practice
Students are reminded that a University degree in Medicine does not in
itself confer the right to practice medicine. This is granted only by
the licensing body of the province in which one intends to practice. In
Saskatchewan the licensing body is the College of Physicians and
Surgeons of Saskatchewan. All students in Medicine are enrolled on the
educational registrar of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of
Saskatchewan.
The examinations of the Medical Council of Canada,
all or in part, will be held separately from the university
examination. Part I is held at the end of medical undergraduate
training and Part II is held after a minimum of at least 15 months
postgraduate training. License requirements vary from province to
province but all require at least two year of postgraduate training,
with specialty training requiring more.
Further information on
licensure requirements in Canada may be obtained from the College of
Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
