Program: China-Canada Joint Health Research Initiative
Deadline: March 19, 2013
Description: The specific objective of the China-Canada Joint Health Research Initiative (2013) is to promote the development of Canadian-Chinese scientific co-operation between researchers located at universities, hospitals, research institutes or affiliated research organizations in Canada and China through the support of collaborative research grants. The CIHR Institutes of Population and Public Health (IPPH) and Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) would like to encourage researchers working in the fields of population and public health and health services and policy research in Canada and China to collaborate on research that aims to compare how different policies and/or primary health care delivery models shift the distribution of health and illness in different contexts. Illustrative examples of research within the relevant research areas of this funding opportunity are provided below. These examples are not intended to be exhaustive and there is no intent to imply that applications in these research areas would be more successful than those in other research areas. • Comparative study of the impact of different primary health care models used for primary prevention, management and treatment of chronic diseases and multimorbidity (e.g., cancer, diabetes, mental illness, circulatory disease, cardiovascular disease, arthritis) in individuals, communities and/or populations in Canada and China; • Comparative examination of the effectiveness of different methods of integrating population health approaches to improve equity of access and outcomes of primary health care for vulnerable populations; • Comparative investigation of the effects of different workplace policies in Canada and China on the health and health equity outcomes of workers. For a list of other relevant areas, please refer to the funding opportunity online. Funds Available • The total amount available for all relevant areas of this funding opportunity is C$3,375,000* from CIHR. • For Canada-based researchers, the maximum amount awarded for a single grant is up to C$75,000 per year for up to three years.
