Edifice, a work by U of S associate art professor Alison Norlen, has recently been purchased by the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. Created especially for the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, Edifice is imposing with its scale and density of fantastical imagery.
Norlen’s drawings and sculptures depict architectural spectacles constructed from personal experiences, imagined spaces, and in the case of Edifice, cultural research informed by local history.
Inspired by the evolving industrial landscape of the K-W area which includes a ladder factory, Norlen has created an imaginative “place of possibility” full of visual metaphors and hints of past and present.

A Yale graduate, Norlen has been awarded numerous grants and her work has been featured in many national and international exhibitions.
