Introduction to Rodent Anaesthesia - Part 1
Description: Students learn the background information for anaesthesia. This session will focus on pre-operative care prior to anaesthesia, pre-medications, general analgesia, injectable vs inhalation, stages of anaesthesia, monitoring devices, recovery and post-operative care. Some pre-lab reading is assigned.
Prerequisite: Basic Rodent Handling or equivalent

Introduction to Rodent Anaesthesia - Part 2
Description: Practical session. Students learn how to develop an injectable anaesthetic protocol for mice and rats, calculate drug dosages, support the anesthetized animal, monitor reflexes, provide an appropriate post-operative environment, provide analgesia, and provide appropriate post-operative care. Inhalation anaesthesia is demonstrated in a mouse and rat.
