Moving In

To move in, come to the Residence Office: 128 Saskatchewan Hall. The office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. You will sign your lease and get your keys. Please book your flights or arrange your travel to correspond with the move in dates and times.

Lease Renewal

Application for lease renewal is required in January each year. Please contact the Residence Office with any questions.

Leases cannot be transferred.

Subletting

If you are leaving for a couple of months and want to reserve your same apartment, you may sublet.
A few things you need to know about subletting:

• You must let the Residence office know of your intent to sublet by writing a letter to Gord Snell, Assistant Residence Manager Facilities.
• It is your responsibility to advertise and find a suitable tenant.
• Once found, you must inform the Residence Office of the name of your subletie, for emergency purposes.
• The leaseholder will still be responsible for all damages and activities in the apartment (many leaseholders take a security deposit for this reason)
• We suggest you draft your own terms and conditions or rules with the subletie.

Moving Out

Your lease for accommodation may be terminated prior to the expiration date on the lease by giving 60 days notice in writing. Please refer to your lease for details.

Vacating

When vacating, you must leave your apartment clean. The cost of cleaning and damages beyond fair wear and tear will be assessed at a rate set by the Residence Department. On vacating, "clean" shall be interpreted to mean:

• oven, stove and fume hood fan are cleaned
• refrigerator and freezer are defrosted and clean
• all bathroom fixtures are washed thoroughly
• closets, cupboards and drawers are emptied and washed out
• all pictures, posters, etc are removed from all services in the apartment
• all trash and garbage is removed from the apartment
• carpet is vacuumed, tiled floor is washed
• all walls are washed

Other tasks to complete before vacating: handing in keys to caretaker, settling your telephone, cable and internet bills and completing a change of address card at the Post Office or go to www.canadapost.ca and go through the online change of address form.
