Overview

The Saskatoon Centre for Patient-Oriented Research (SCPOR) is a joint initiative of the University of Saskatchewan, the Saskatoon Health Region and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency.

Services available through SCPOR (pronounced “skipper”) are used by researchers from private industry, government and academia. SCPOR is devoted to forging links among researchers in all three sectors, bringing together the interdisciplinary expertise needed to conduct research efficiently and cost-effectively.

The unique blend of professionals and state-of-the-art facilities allows for high-quality, cost-effective research and development. Typical activities include human clinical trials, basic science drug research, natural products, pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomics.

SCPOR staff provides a wide range of support for researchers, including research coordination and administration, and matching investigators with researchers to build collaborative relationships. SCPOR assumes many of the administrative duties that would otherwise have to be performed by investigators and their research coordinators, freeing researchers to devote their efforts to recruiting eligible patients and completing clinical trials.

We are located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  Saskatoon is Saskatchewan’s largest city (about 225,000 people), situated on the banks of the South Saskatchewan river.  We are home to the University of Saskatchewan; the Canadian Light Source Synchrotron and the VIDO-InterVac. Saskatoon also features one of the most successful university-related research parks (Innovation Place) in North America.  The park is situated on 80 acres adjacent to the University of Saskatchewan, building on the Institution’s strengths in agriculture, environmental and life sciences and information technology.
