Activities
Held in Saskatoon and Regina:
MIND BOGGLE PUZZLES
These are word puzzles
that were designed by the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives.
They can be used as a fun way to learn about the functions of
the brain.
BRAIN AWARENESS WEEK DINNER
The dinner was held at
the Ramada Hotel in Saskatoon, SK on Friday, March 12, 1999 beginning
at 6:00 pm. Highlights included:
a talk by the Honourable
Judy Junor, Associate Minister of Health for the Province of
Saskatchewan,
Dr. David Schreyer, who
reported on the state of neuroscience in Saskatchewan and some
of the outstanding achievements during the past year,
and an outline of the
new challenges in Health Research in Canada by Marcel Chartrand,
MRC, Ottawa.
The voluntary health
agencies also reported on their achievements and their plans
for the coming year.

PUBLIC LECTURES
With the exception of
the talk by Danna Wilkinson, all presentations were given in
the lecture theater of the Frances Morrison library in downtown
Saskatoon. The lectures began at 7:00 pm.

Wieler (Department of Speech Pathology, RUH) spoke on "Child
Language Development".
Wednesday, March
17, 1999: Dr. Satish
Shrikhande (Department of Psychiatry, U. of S.) spoke on "Mysteries
of Schizophrenia".
Wednesday, March
17, 1999: Danna Wilkinson
(Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan) gave a talk on "What
is Alzheimer's Disease? All Your Questions Answered" in
Regina at the Goerge Bothwell Branch Library.
Friday, March 19,
1999: Dr. Earl DeCouteau
(Clinical Gerontology, Department of Medicine, RUH) spoke on
"Whats New in the Diagnosis and Management of Alzheimers
Disease."

David Schreyer addressed the Rotary Club of Saskatoon Meewasin;
the title of his talk was "Brain and Spinal Cord Injury:
New Hope From Biomedical Research".

Dr. Sergey Fedoroff addressed the Rotary Club of Saskatoon; the
title of his talk was "Brain Stem Cells: New Kids on the
Block".

Nutana; the title of her talk was "The Aging Brain: Facts
or Fantasy".

BRAIN SHOW
On Saturday, March 20,
1999 beginning at 10:00 am there was a Brain Show that was open
to the public. There were about 40 booths and ongoing video presentations
with question and answer sessions. The show was held in the Galleria
of Innovation Place in Saskatoon.
