Application Information
Applicants are selected on the basis of academic and research potential as demonstrated by academic credentials, letters of reference, and past experience and scholarly contributions. All candidates must submit the following:
- A completed GSR Online Application form from the College of Graduate Studies and Research (CGSR) accompanied by a $75.00 non-refundable application fee (online application directions can be found at the CGSR link);
- Two official copies of all post-secondary transcripts sent directly from your institution and proof of degree completion (certificate/diploma or degree awarded noted on official transcript); and
- 3 letters of recommendation. When applying online you will be asked to provide the contact information and email addresses of the recommenders. Recommenders will then be sent an electronic link for completion of the letters of recommendation. At least two of these letters should be from professors acquainted with the applicant's previous scholarly work, while other letters may comment on the student's preparation for continuing studies through his/her work experience. In cases where an applicant has been out of university for some years, professional recommendations may be submitted.
- Proof of Academic English competency. For details of this requirements, please go to: http://www.usask.ca/sph/graduate_programs/public_health_program/admission_qualifications.html
In addition to the above documentation required for admission into the College of Graduate Studies and Research, applicants for the course-based program must also submit:
- A brief letter of interest (approximately 1-2 pages in length) addressed to the MPH Program Director. This letter should include:
- A description of all employment and/or study experiences that relate to their interests in Public Health; and
- A description of why the applicant wants to pursue a degree in the interdisciplinary context of the School of Public Health; and
- A description of their education and career aspirations and how they feel the program will help meet these goals.
- A current curriculum vitae.
- If you have been admitted to the program, your knowledge in Biostatistics will be assessed in the Foundations of Public Health (PUBH 804) class in August. A prerequisite course will be offered at the UofS campus if required after this assessment. The preparation for the Biostatistics for Public Health (PUBH 805) should include competency in the concepts listed here.
- Students must have previous relevant coursework which affords them adequate knowledge of the basic principles of biology so as to be able to effectively practice in the field of public health. Students without this knowledge must register for PUBH 806 - Public Health Pathobiology in their first term of the MPH program. This class is a pre-requisite and not part of the 45-credit units that make up the MPH degree and students will be assessed additional tuition equivalent to a three-credit class. Individuals with degrees in medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, nursing and physical therapy will be considered to have this knowledge and granted an exemption from this course.
NOTE: Previous public health experience is recommended. This could be acquired as a professional working in the field or through exposure through volunteer activities.
Application package and supporting documentation must be sent to:
