Kazakhstan has rapidly grown in many facets and is currently in an exciting stage of developing its public health capacity and infrastructure. In response to this growth, the Government of Kazakhstan has awarded students with scholarship, one of which includes Gulzhan Maxutova, a first year MPH student in the University of Saskatchewan School of Public Health.
"Taking into consideration that public health deals with the health of entire populations as opposed to individual/clinical health, I believe that the main objectives of public health in terms of providing protection, prevention and promotion will only help in bringing the country to a new level of economic and political development and well being," said Gulzhan. "After graduating from the MPH program, I plan to return to my country and put into practice the theories I've learned at the U of S. I think it is advisable and prudent to get a first-class public health education from countries where already so much has been done and so many benefits have been gained in this field. Therefore, I am most thankful to have received a scholarship from the Government of Kazakhstan that affords me an opportunity to receive a first rate education from the University of Saskatchewan School of Public Health, so I may benefit my people."
